THE STAMPS AND POSTS OF ALBANIA AND EPIRUS 1878 – 1945. By JOHN S. PHIPPS
Country Index

SOLD OUT
The 60 page historical background in part 1 provides an invaluable setting for the description of the postal services and stamps that follow. This covers the Ottoman era from 1878-1913, the creation of the State of Albania, the reign of Prince Wilhelm, the position during World War I, and the recovery of independance after it, and the regimes of Ahmed Zogu, Zog and Haxha. The second part deals with the stamps and posts. It covers the foreign postal services in detail and the complicated situation in WW1, the interwar years and WWII and the occupation and it's aftermath. Stamps and postal markings are illustrated throughout and there is a valuable index, gazeteer and a map section in annexe.

Awards include a Large Silver Gilt for Literarture at Autumn Stampex 1997 and a Large Vermeil at Italia 1998
